BEST Books for Back To School
The BEST Back to School Books are on our mind as we are thinking about the new school year and getting our classrooms ready. Of course we have favorites, like The Recess Queen, but we like to add new books to our list. We held back and didn’t add that one, but it really is one of our favorites!

A Letter From Your Teacher is a sweet book written from the teacher to her incoming students. The teacher explains how they will build a special bond together and how she wants to get to know them and their interests.
Inspiring Ideas: You could use this book to create a class rules chart or class contract. This book also makes a great springboard to having students make flip books to tell about themselves and celebrate their individual interests.
Our Class Is A Family is written by the same author as the last book. It is a great book for creating a culture of kindness and respect for each other in our classrooms.
Inspiring Ideas: Use this book to help students make decisions about how they create this kind and respectful culture themselves.
Do Unto Otters is such a fun and cute book! Mr. Rabbit has new neighbors and he isn’t sure if he knows how they can be friends. He learns to treat others how he would like to be treated.
Inspiring Ideas: This book can help teachers start conversations about what makes a good friend or neighbor and what it means to have good manners. Students can have lots of good conversations in small groups from this book!
In What About X?, the letters are packing for a camping trip and X just doesn’t know what to bring. Each item they bring is themed to camping and begins with their own letter of the alphabet.
Inspired Ideas: Students can choose a themed trip or field trip. They then can be assigned a letter or letters to choose what that letter should bring. Then place the book in a literacy center to match magnetic letters to the book from letter recognition centers.
