Must read books for December is here! We are always on the look out for good holiday books. And we have four really good books, plus some skill ideas to go with them, to share with you this month!

Christmas Farm is such a sweet story about a lady and her young neighbor who start a tree farm. There are a lot of ways to use this book and one of them is real life math problem solving! Students can also see how things change over time and could be used for timelines.

Book number two is How to Catch a Gingerbread Man. This is a fun book with references to other stories some children will pick up on. It is also a great way to get in some phonics with spelling patterns in the rhyming words. If you want, students could build traps to catch the Gingerbread Man!

If your students like the Grumpy Monkey book, they will definitely like the Grumpy Monkey Oh, No! Christmas book. I like the variety of vocabulary used in this book. The words could be used to teach positive and negative meanings and feelings from the vocabulary. Character traits would be good for this book too!

Our last must read book for December, Little Red Sleigh, is a sweet tale about a sled who is told she can’t do something. She believes in herself and perseveres. Along her journey, the sled meets friends who encourage her by sharing their journey too.

Another way to get in some holiday comprehension is with these digital cause and effect activities. Students will have fun learning about causes and effects in a holiday theme!

We also have the printable version if you prefer that to the digital version.
